The Gender Park is engaged in transformative research and education in the field of gender. Through the Gender Park’s International Institute for Gender and Development (IIGD), the Park engages in solution based knowledge management on different aspects of gender, development and governance. The research undertaken at the Gender Park’s IIGD covers a variety of subject areas pertaining to different aspects of gender, including political science, statistics, economics, law, history, anthropology, philosophy, art, music and culture, with a Kerala, national and international focus. In addition to research and knowledge management, the IIGD will also provide formal academic training in the form of certificate courses, MA, M.Phil and Ph.D courses in gender studies.
The Gender Park provides need-based capacity building and training to different groups, such as students, government officials and professionals, through specialized training modules on gender sensitivity, inclusion and awareness.
The Gender Park also aims to specifically increase government capacity and efficiency in gender. The Gender Park provides opinions, reports, evaluations, and recommendations on government action in gender within the state. As a society under the Department of Social Justice, Government of Kerala, it is uniquely positioned to see these recommendations implemented by the government.
The Gender Park will also conduct active interventions into society through its empowerment projects. These are off-campus activities and include various projects which can be implemented throughout Kerala with a focus on the welfare of women and transgenders. The projects are initiated as pilots and are then replicated only when the models prove to be sustainable.
